U.S. Senator: We Cannot Continue Funding a Government that Killed 60,000 Palestinians
SadaNews - U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders stated that it is unacceptable for the United States to continue funding a government that has killed around 60,000 Palestinians and injured over 143,000 others, most of whom are women, children, and the elderly.
Sanders added that it is not possible to support a government that has blocked aid and caused a comprehensive famine, literally starving the residents of Gaza, referring to the Israeli government.
The U.S. senator emphasized that taxpayers have spent tens of billions supporting Benjamin Netanyahu's racist and extremist government, adding that he will compel the Senate to vote on two resolutions to prevent arms sales to Israel due to the famine in Gaza.
Democratic senators have called for the resumption of negotiations for a ceasefire in Gaza "in good faith and as soon as possible," demanding an expansion of aid to the sector.
This initiative is led by a group of prominent Jewish Democrats, including Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senator Adam Schiff, to pressure President Donald Trump's administration to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza and address what they describe as a "humanitarian crisis."
According to the American newspaper "The Hill," 40 Democratic representatives warned in a letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio and U.S. Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff that the situation in Gaza is "unsustainable and worsening day by day," and that "hunger and malnutrition are widespread," leading to deaths due to hunger, especially among children.
The signatories of the letter pointed out that the so-called "Gaza Humanitarian Foundation" has "failed to address the worsening humanitarian crisis, contributing to an unacceptable rise in the number of civilian casualties around the foundation's locations."
