Jordan Welcomes UK's Announcement of Intent to Officially Recognize the Palestinian State

SadaNews - The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates welcomed the announcement by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer regarding the United Kingdom's intention to officially recognize the Palestinian state during the upcoming United Nations General Assembly meetings in September. This is seen as a step in the right direction towards realizing the two-state solution and ending the occupation. The official spokesperson for the ministry, Ambassador Dr. Sufyan Al-Qudah, affirmed the Kingdom's appreciation for the British Prime Minister's decision, describing it as an important step to counter efforts that deny the Palestinian people's inalienable right to self-determination and to establish their independent and sovereign state on their national soil. Ambassador Al-Qudah added that this announcement aligns with international efforts aimed at recognizing a sovereign Palestinian state based on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, following the two-state solution in accordance with international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative. Ambassador Al-Qudah emphasized the importance of the high-level international conference for a peaceful settlement of the Palestinian issue and for implementing the two-state solution, currently held in New York co-chaired by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the French Republic, to garner international support for further recognition of the Palestinian state based on the two-state solution, viewed as the only way to achieve a just and comprehensive peace that ensures security and stability in the region. The ambassador reiterated the Kingdom's firm position in continuing to work with brothers and international partners to support the Palestinian people's right to freedom, end the occupation, and realize their independent state on their national territory.
