Sa'ar Attacks International Pressures: Establishing a Palestinian State Would Enable Hamas to Dominate
SadaNews - Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar rejected increasing international pressures on Israel regarding the peace process, warning that these pressures, as he described, serve the interests of Hamas and hinder the possibility of reaching peaceful solutions between the two sides.
Sa'ar explained in a press conference today that Hamas's continued rule "constitutes a tragedy for both Israelis and Palestinians," considering that establishing a Palestinian state under the control of the movement would mean having a "terrorist state" at Israel's borders, which the Israeli government will never accept under any circumstances.
He added: "International pressure on us will not succeed. Those seeking true peace should direct their pressures towards Hamas, not towards Israel."
The minister pointed out that by ignoring the dangers posed by Hamas, the international community contributes to complicating the political scene and distances the chances of reaching a peaceful settlement. He called for a re-evaluation of international policies regarding the Palestinian issue and focusing on what he described as "actual sources of threat."
