"Shooting Game on Starving Civilians"... A British Surgeon recounts the horrors of the Israeli army in Gaza
SadaNews - Dr. Nick Maynard, a British surgeon who recently returned from Gaza, confirmed in an interview with Sky News the existence of "severe malnutrition" among Gazans, revealing that Israeli soldiers shoot at civilians at aid points "as if they were playing a shooting game."
According to the network, Maynard spent four weeks working inside Nasser Hospital, where food shortages caused difficulties for paramedics in treating children and infants.
Dr. Maynard said, "I met several doctors who were carrying boxes of baby formula in their bags, which had all been confiscated by Israeli border guards. Nothing else was confiscated, only baby formula."
He added, "Four premature babies died during the first two weeks of my stay at Nasser Hospital, and there will be many more deaths unless the Israelis allow proper food to enter there."
"Infants are being fed water and sugar"
Dr. Maynard has been visiting Gaza for 15 years, and this was his third visit to the Strip since the war began.
The British surgeon stated that almost all children in the pediatric unit of Nasser Hospital are being fed sugary water.
He warned, "They have a small amount of baby formula for very young children, but it is not enough."
Dr. Maynard noted that the lack of aid also had a significant impact on his colleagues, adding, "I saw people I've known for years, and I didn’t recognize some of them. Two colleagues lost 20 and 30 kilograms of weight. They were extremely hungry. They go to work every day, then return to their tents where they find no food."
He confirmed that the Israeli army is shooting at Gaza residents at aid points.
"Shooting Game"
During the interview, Dr. Maynard stated that Israeli soldiers shoot at civilians at aid points "as if they were playing a shooting game."
Dr. Maynard mentioned that he performed surgeries on children as young as 11 years old who were "shot at aid distribution points" managed by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation.
He said, "They went to get food for their hungry families, and they were shot."
He pointed out that he performed surgery on a 12-year-old boy who "died on the operating table due to his serious injuries."
Dr. Maynard emphasized that "the most painful thing is the pattern of injuries we saw, and the concentration of injuries in specific parts of the body on certain days," explaining that "on one day they often came in with gunshots to the head or neck, on another day to the chest, and on another day to the abdomen."
He added, "Twelve days ago, four teenage boys came in, all of whom were shot in the testicles, and it was deliberate. This is not an accident. It was so clear that it couldn’t be considered an accident, and it seemed to us like a shooting game."
He continued, "I would never have believed this if I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes."
Away from the supervision of the United Nations and international organizations, Tel Aviv and Washington have been implementing since May 27 a plan to distribute limited aid through the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, where the Israeli army is bombing Palestinians lining up to receive aid.
The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, funded by the United States and Israel, has four aid distribution sites, all located in Israeli military areas, and journalists are prohibited from entering them.
According to the United Nations, more than 1,000 people have been killed while trying to receive food aid since the foundation took responsibility.
More than 170 international relief organizations have called for the immediate closure of the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, as it endangers civilians with the risk of death and injury.
