US Envoy Announces Agreement Between Israel and Syria on Ceasefire
SadaNews - Thomas Barak, the US ambassador to Turkey and Washington's envoy to Syria, stated last night that Israel and Syria have agreed to a ceasefire with the support of Turkey, Jordan, and neighboring countries, according to the Reuters news agency.
Israel had launched airstrikes on Damascus last Wednesday and bombarded government forces in the south, demanding their withdrawal, claiming that Israel aims to protect Syrian Druze.
Barak posted on X, saying: "We call on the Druze, Bedouins, and Sunnis to lay down their arms and build a new and unified Syrian identity with other minorities."
The announcement of the ceasefire came after the United States worked to put an end to the conflict. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated on Wednesday that steps have been agreed upon to end the "disturbing and terrifying situation."
