Agreement between the European Union and Israel Allows Aid to Enter Gaza
Translation by SadaNews - The EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, stated that following decisions made by the Israeli cabinet and constructive dialogue between the EU and Israel, Israel has agreed to take significant steps to improve the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.
Borrell's statement continued: "These measures will be implemented in the coming days, with a shared understanding that large-scale aid must reach the population directly and that measures will continue to ensure that aid is not diverted to Hamas."
He added: "These steps include, among other things, a significant increase in the number of daily trucks carrying food and non-food items entering Gaza, the opening of several additional crossing points in both the northern and southern areas; reopening of aid routes from Jordan and Egypt; enabling the distribution of food supplies through bakeries and public kitchens across the Gaza Strip; resuming the delivery of fuel for use by humanitarian facilities, to operational levels; protecting relief workers; and repairing and facilitating operations on critical infrastructure such as resuming power supplies to the water desalination facility."
The European Union stands ready to coordinate with all relevant humanitarian stakeholders, UN agencies, and NGOs on the ground to ensure the swift implementation of these urgent steps.
The EU once again calls for an immediate ceasefire, the release of all remaining hostages, and supports the current efforts being made by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States as mediators.
