Haaretz: Israeli soldier in Golani Brigade commits suicide after interrogation
SadaNews - Haaretz reported that a soldier in the Golani Brigade committed suicide this week by shooting himself at the Sde Yam military base.
The newspaper clarified that the soldier took his own life after undergoing an investigation by the military police.
It added that the soldier had left the Gaza Strip to attend a refresher course, and military police investigators were waiting for him regarding a previous investigation.
It noted that the commanders of the soldier who committed suicide decided to take his weapon away from him following the investigation, and hours later, he took his companion's weapon and shot himself.
A few days ago, the Israeli website "Walla" reported that another soldier committed suicide after suffering continuously during the long months of war in Gaza and Lebanon and after witnessing the atrocities and horrors of this war.
Israeli media reported that the number of soldiers who have committed suicide since the start of the Israeli war on Gaza on October 7, 2023, has reached 43, due to psychological symptoms resulting from combat.
Haaretz stated that the Israeli army refuses to disclose the number of soldiers who have committed suicide, but it cited sources indicating that soldiers have taken their own lives due to the ongoing war in Gaza.
The newspaper also quoted sources saying that the army has been burying many soldiers since the start of the war due to suicide without military funerals or announcements.
On another note, Maariv reported that the Knesset will hold an urgent discussion at the request of the families of the soldiers of the 605 Engineering Battalion, who warned of serious malfunctions and security flaws in the Puma combat vehicle system used in Gaza.
The newspaper stated that the most prominent defects of the vehicle include the absence of a rear escape hatch and surrounding cameras, in addition to weak protection compared to other vehicles.
