Kamel: Providing Aid of More than 55 Million Shekels to Displaced Residents of Tulkarem and Nur Shams Camps
SadaNews - Governor of Tulkarem, Abdullah Kamel, announced that the total value of interventions aimed at supporting the forcibly displaced residents from the Tulkarem and Nur Shams camps, in terms of relief and shelter, amounted to more than 55 million shekels, which included cash and relief assistance, accommodation, and rent allowances that have been implemented.
Kamel explained in a press statement today, Wednesday, that these interventions included 15 million shekels as cash assistance for rent, which is being disbursed in installments through the "PALPAY" application, while previous installments were disbursed through other means, as part of ensuring temporary housing for the displaced families.
He said: "In addition to this, 40 million shekels were allocated to provide food parcels, health supplies, blankets, mattresses, and all basic needs, as well as payments for electricity and water, clothing, and meals through charities, in addition to implementing employment programs for our displaced people to ensure a minimum of decent living conditions amid the difficult circumstances that the camps are experiencing due to this unprecedented aggression."
Kamel emphasized that these efforts came under direct instructions from President Mahmoud Abbas, with follow-up from the government headed by Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa, and support from the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), international institutions, the Ministry of Social Development, partner entities, local communities, the private sector, and donors who played a significant role in enhancing the resilience of citizens.
He pointed out that these interventions come amidst the ongoing Israeli aggression, which has resulted in extensive destruction of the infrastructure in the camps and the displacement of hundreds of families, necessitating comprehensive national solidarity, despite the challenges facing the Palestinian National Authority due to the imposed financial and political siege.
Kamel added: "The Tulkarem Governorate will continue its diligent efforts through the Dignity Committee for Relief and Shelter, to support our displaced people and work on rehabilitating what was destroyed by the occupation, ensuring the restoration of a decent life for our people, while our primary goal is the return of our displaced people to their homes, accompanied by efforts to rehabilitate the Tulkarem and Nur Shams camps."
He clarified that these interventions are conducted according to procedures of transparency, oversight, and auditing through specialized supervisory committees from all partners, and are documented in accordance with the proper regulations.
