Ukrainian Drone Attack Targets Lipetsk.. Casualties Reported

SadaNews - A woman was killed and two others were injured in a Ukrainian drone attack that targeted the Lipetsk region in Russia, located about 400 kilometers southeast of Moscow, according to local authorities on Thursday morning.

The regional governor, Igor Artemonov, stated via the Telegram app that "drone shrapnel fell on a private residential building," explaining that the deceased, born in 1954, was residing in the building, while the injured were taken to the hospital.

The governor added that other drones caused a fire at a site belonging to a company in the city of Yelets, an industrial area in Lipetsk, but no other casualties were reported.

In contrast, Russia targeted the coastal city of Odessa in southern Ukraine with airstrikes on the night of Wednesday to Thursday, resulting in four injuries.

Ukrainian ambulance services reported that a Russian attack damaged a nine-story building and led to a large fire, adding that about fifty people were evacuated from the building.

These attacks are part of a nearly daily wave of reciprocal strikes between Moscow and Kyiv using explosive drones, which has been a prominent feature of the ongoing war for more than three years.

The drone war between the two sides has notably escalated, with Ukraine using long-range drones to attack targets deep within Russian territory, including industrial areas and logistics facilities, while Russia continues to bombard Ukrainian cities and civilian infrastructure using Iranian-made drones and precision-guided missiles.

Despite the intensity of these attacks, the occurrence of casualties on Russian territory as a result of Ukrainian drone strikes is relatively rare, highlighting the sensitivity of the recent attack in Lipetsk and the potential for escalating reciprocal responses in the coming phase.
