An-Najah National University Joins the Club of the World's Top 50 Universities in the Times Higher Education Sustainability Impact Rankings 2026, Advancing to the 33rd Position Globally
SadaNews - An-Najah National University has achieved a new global milestone that enhances its academic and research presence on the international university map, having ranked 33rd globally among 1,603 higher education institutions participating in the Times Higher Education Sustainability Impact Ratings 2026, achieving an overall score of 93.9 out of 100.
With this achievement, An-Najah National University officially enters the club of the world's top 50 universities in sustainability rankings, affirming its advanced position as one of the leading universities in utilizing education, scientific research, and community service to achieve sustainable development goals.
The university has shown remarkable progress compared to its result from the previous year, as it moved from 82nd globally in the 2025 ranking with a score of 90.3, to 33rd globally in the 2026 ranking with a score of 93.9, reflecting a qualitative development in the university's performance and its institutional indicators related to sustainability.
Locally, An-Najah National University ranked first among 8 Palestinian universities listed in the ranking and second in the Arab world, which reflects its national leadership and growing regional and international presence in sustainability and the impact of universities in serving community needs.
The ranking of An-Najah National University is based on its performance in several sustainable development goals, primarily the partnership goal to achieve the objectives SDG 17, which is a mandatory goal in the Times Higher Education sustainability ranking, where the university achieved a score of 95.7. It also scored well in responsible consumption and production (SDG 12) with a score of 88.5, peace, justice, and strong institutions (SDG 16) with a score of 85.3, and affordable and clean energy (SDG 7) with a score of 84.1.
The ranking results also showed exceptional performance for the university's global ranking in several sustainable development goals, having achieved 4th place globally in the goal of affordable and clean energy (SDG 7), 12th globally in the goal of peace, justice, and strong institutions (SDG 16), and 13th globally in the partnership goal to achieve the objectives (SDG 17).
The university also achieved advanced global positions in several other goals, including: 20th globally in the goal of reducing inequalities (SDG 10), 20th globally in responsible consumption and production (SDG 12), 22nd globally in climate action (SDG 13), 24th globally in clean water and sanitation (SDG 6), and 27th globally in eradicating poverty (SDG 1).
This significant progress reflects An-Najah National University's commitment to an inclusive institutional vision that integrates sustainability into education, scientific research, governance, and community work, translating sustainable development goals into practical initiatives, programs, and practices both on and off campus.
The university emphasized that this achievement is the result of collective and integrated efforts made by colleges, centers, administrative and research units, alongside local and international partnerships that enhanced the university's role in community service, supporting innovation, and establishing principles of justice, equality, climate action, and sustainable energy.
