A Phone Call Between President Abbas and His Cypriot Counterpart Discusses Developments in the Palestinian Territories
SadaNews - A phone call took place between the President of the State of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, and the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, during which ways to enhance bilateral relations were discussed, as well as a review of the latest developments in Palestine and topics of mutual interest.
President Mahmoud Abbas expressed his appreciation for Cyprus's political positions and its humanitarian role, along with the assistance it provides to the Gaza Strip.
President Abbas also reaffirmed the priority of establishing a ceasefire, delivering aid, the withdrawal of Israel, and moving towards recovery and reconstruction in the Gaza Strip. He emphasized Palestine's welcome for the implementation of President Trump’s plan and UN Security Council Resolution 2803, stressing the necessity of maintaining the sovereign and legal role of the State of Palestine in the Gaza Strip, which is part of it.
On another note, the president stated that it is essential to mobilize international efforts to stop settlement expansion, settler terrorism, and all unilateral actions, as well as to retrieve the withheld Palestinian funds.
President Abbas reiterated the commitment of the State of Palestine to implement a program of national reforms, emphasizing the democratic process that began with local elections, youth elections, and Fatah conference, leading to parliamentary elections in November and the convening of the National Council, along with presidential elections next year.
For his part, the Cypriot president affirmed his country's support for a two-state solution based on international law and the importance of commitment to security, stability, and peace among all parties in the region.
The Cypriot president praised the close security cooperation between the relevant authorities in both countries.
President Christodoulides extended an invitation to President Mahmoud Abbas to visit Cyprus.
