Kim Supervises Tests of an Enhanced Version of the Rocket Launch System

SadaNews - North Korean leader Kim Jong Un oversaw key weapon tests and called for strengthening the "lethal and destructive offensive posture" of the military, just days after the country put its first naval destroyer into service, according to state media reported on Friday.

This development aligns with Kim's efforts to enhance both nuclear and conventional military capabilities while refusing to return to talks with South Korea and the United States.

The official Korean Central News Agency reported that the tests witnessed by Kim on Thursday aimed to assess the power of a warhead, an enhanced multiple rocket launch system, and the accuracy of extended-range shells from a self-propelled howitzer.

The agency quoted Kim as saying that the test results demonstrated the technological progress achieved in changing the firing stance in the southern border areas, meaning that the tested weapon systems are aimed at sites in South Korea, including U.S. military bases there.

According to the agency, Kim stated that North Korea's self-defense policy includes a goal to enhance the "lethal and destructive offensive posture to make any enemy dare not confront us." He added, "Making the enemies feel constant concern and fear is merely an important aspect of exercising war deterrence."

The agency noted that the tested warhead aims to "inflict deadly damage on key targets, including airports, ports, and enemy energy facilities."

On Tuesday, North Korea commissioned the 5,000-ton destroyer, which Kim praised as a symbol of the country's growing naval and nuclear capabilities. The "Choi Hyun" is the most advanced warship in North Korea.
