Governor of the Palestinian Monetary Authority Meets with the French Consul General to Discuss Developments in the Banking Sector and Efforts to Enhance Financial Stability and Digital Transformation
SadaNews Economy - Today, the Governor of the Palestinian Monetary Authority, Yahya Shenar, met at the Monetary Authority's headquarters with the French Consul General Nicolas Cassianidis, accompanied by the Deputy Consul Ms. Arnaud Blanchard and the Economic and Trade Advisor at the French Consulate Souad Al-Jnawi, with the attendance of the Deputy Governor Mohammad Mansara and several directors from the Monetary Authority.
The governor briefed the French consul on the latest developments in the Palestinian banking sector, and the efforts being made by the Monetary Authority to maintain financial stability and enhance the resilience of the banking system in light of current challenges, especially the crisis of the accumulating shekel in Palestinian banks and its negative impacts on the continuity of the economic cycle in Palestine, affirming the importance of international community intervention to pressure Israel to accept the transfer of the shekel to Israeli banks.
The governor also reviewed the Monetary Authority's efforts in the field of digital transformation and the development of electronic payment systems, in addition to its funding programs aimed at supporting and financing projects and enhancing economic development, contributing to the revitalization of the national economy in current circumstances, within a framework of institutional vision based on independence and professionalism in decision-making.
The meeting addressed the situation in the Gaza Strip, the related economic and financial challenges, along with the role that the banking sector continues to play in mitigating their severity, as the Monetary Authority has worked to provide and maintain essential banking services, especially digital services, to ensure that citizens can access their financial needs and enhance the continuity of banking operations amid current circumstances.
For his part, the French consul general expressed his country's appreciation for the efforts of the Monetary Authority in promoting financial stability, affirming France's continued support for Palestine and its commitment to continue cooperation and support initiatives that contribute to the development of the Palestinian banking sector.
