When Time Races Against Injury.. Al-Saraya Field Hospital Writes a New Chapter of Survival
SadaNews - "I woke up after several surgeries and five days in intensive care... and today I am walking on my feet." With these words, young Mohammed Abu al-Nasr recalls the details of one of the toughest moments in his life, after he survived severe injuries that nearly cost him his life, before his story turned into a new testament to the efforts made by the medical teams at the Al-Saraya Field Hospital affiliated with the Palestine Red Crescent Society.
Mohammed arrived at the emergency department of the hospital on June 28, after being subjected to a direct targeting, and was in an extremely critical condition. He entered the hospital almost unconscious, suffering from a disturbance in consciousness, while initial examinations revealed a fracture at the base of the skull and severe internal bleeding in the abdomen, alongside multiple injuries that threatened his life and required urgent medical intervention.
In a race against time, the medical and surgical teams mobilized all their resources. After completing the urgent procedures and securing two units of blood, Mohammed was transferred directly to the operating room, where a multidisciplinary team began a series of complex surgical interventions.
The surgical exploration revealed injuries to the small and large intestines, in addition to a second-degree liver injury, which was repaired, and an anastomosis of the intestines was performed, using surgical cushions to control the bleeding, in preparation for further treatment in a subsequent surgical intervention.
At the same time, the neurosurgery team addressed the skull injury, where it became clear that the bleeding was limited, and they stabilized the fracture and cleaned the affected tissues, contributing to the stabilization of his condition. The team also dealt with chest injuries by placing two drainage tubes to treat the accumulation of blood and air within the thoracic cavity, until his vital signs stabilized.
After several surgeries and five days spent in the intensive care unit, Mohammed's journey towards recovery began. As his condition improved, he was transferred to the inpatient department for continued treatment and medical follow-up, and today he is on the road to recovery, enjoying a better clinical status, and taking his first steps on his feet again.
Mohammed says with a smile filled with gratitude: "I woke up after several surgeries and five days in intensive care... and today I am happy to be walking on my feet. Thank God, and I wish safety for everyone."
Mohammed's story reflects the level of readiness and integration among the emergency, surgery, neurosurgery, anesthesia, and intensive care units at the Al-Saraya Field Hospital, reaffirming the ability of the medical teams at the Palestine Red Crescent Society to handle critical injuries and provide specialized care that saves lives, despite the humanitarian challenges and harsh conditions faced by the Gaza Strip.
