Prisoners Club: The occupation attempted to kill prisoner Ghassan Zawahra by shooting him with rubber bullets three times
SadaNews - The Prisoners Club held the Israeli occupation’s prison system fully responsible for the assault on prisoner Ghassan Ibrahim Zawahra from the Dheisheh camp in Bethlehem Governorate, affirming that what happened to him, according to his testimony, amounts to a deliberate attempt to kill carried out by the repression units of the prison administration.
The Prisoners Club explained in a press statement that the repression forces fired rubber bullets at prisoner Zawahra inside "Negev" prison, following his transfer from "Janot - Ramon" prison on June 8, where he faced immediate naked and humiliating searches degrading to human dignity, accompanied by a brutal physical assault by the repression forces.
It indicated that prisoner Zawahra was subjected to another act of repression on June 17, executed by the "Matshada" unit, during which rubber bullets were fired at the prisoners, causing him to be shot in the thigh. According to his testimony, the repression forces shot at him for the third time directly, resulting in severe injuries and heavy bleeding before dragging him from the section where he was held.
According to the Prisoners Club, Zawahra attempted to walk despite his injury but collapsed in the prison yard due to bleeding and inability to move, before losing consciousness. He was later transferred to the prison clinic, and then to "Soroka" hospital, where he underwent surgery on the injury site, before being returned the same day to prison, during which he was allegedly assaulted with batons according to his testimony.
The Prisoners Club confirmed that Zawahra's statement only represents a part of what he endured, as it was limited to what was allowed to be disclosed, while the testimony includes other extremely harsh and shocking details, confirming that the repression forces deliberately attempted to kill him by firing rubber bullets at him three times directly and repeatedly after his transfer to "Negev" prison.
It noted that Zawahra was recently transferred again to "Janot" prison and that he is a former prisoner who has spent a total of 17 years in Israeli prisons, including seven years of actual sentences, while the rest of his imprisonment years were under administrative detention. The occupation had rearrested him in February 2025 and transferred him to administrative detention.
It is worth mentioning that prisoner Zawahra is the brother of martyr Moataz Zawahra, and his brother Mohammed Zawahra has also previously been arrested. He is married and a father of four children and lost his father on the second day of his latest arrest. He has also been subjected, during his years of imprisonment, to repeated torture and abuse, engaged in hunger strikes, while his family has faced ongoing harassment and repeated incursions.
