Telecommunications Regulatory Authority Issues Decision to Regulate the Import of Mobile Phones in Palestine
SadaNews - The Board of Directors of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority has issued a decision for the year 2025 regarding the regulation of the import of mobile phones in Palestine, in a move aimed at enhancing market regulation, ensuring the quality of the devices in circulation, and protecting consumer rights, in line with the national legislation governing the telecommunications and information technology sector.
The decision stipulates that the import of mobile phones is restricted to natural or legal persons who hold an import license for telecommunications devices issued by the authority, provided they possess an official non-exclusive agency or a non-exclusive authorized distributor certificate from the parent company manufacturing the devices to be imported.
The decision also permits the agent or official authorized distributor to collaborate with locally licensed companies from the authority to trade in telecommunications devices, allowing them to be accredited distributors within the state, provided that the devices sold remain under the warranty of the agent or authorized distributor, who will bear full responsibility for the actions of their contracted distributors, within the limits of applicable laws and regulations.
The decision obligates agents and authorized distributors to provide the authority with valid agreements signed with the parent companies when applying for or renewing their licenses.
The decision indicated that its provisions will come into effect starting June 15, 2026, granting all licensees ample time to adjust their legal status in accordance with its provisions before this date, and it annulled any texts or provisions that conflict with its content.
The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority emphasized that this decision comes as part of its vision to regulate the market for mobile phones, limit the import of devices that do not meet technical and legal specifications, enhance transparency and fair competition, and ensure consumer protection by providing authorized technical maintenance services and original spare parts for devices in circulation in the Palestinian market, achieving the public interest and serving citizens in the State of Palestine.
