Palestinian Electricity Transmission Company and Hebron Electric Company Sign Electricity Supply Agreement from Beit Oula Station

SadaNews Economy - Under the patronage and attendance of Prime Minister Dr. Muhammad Mustafa, the signing ceremony of the electricity supply agreement for the city of Hebron from the Beit Oula station was held today, Tuesday, through the Palestinian Electricity Transmission Company for the benefit of the Hebron Electric Company, funded by the World Bank. The event took place at the headquarters of the Palestinian Energy Authority in Ramallah, attended by the head of the authority, Ayman Ismail, Secretary-General of the Cabinet Dawwas Dawwas, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Palestinian Electricity Transmission Company Imad Barik, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hebron Electric Company Asma Al-Sharabati, and members of the boards of directors of both companies.

The Prime Minister emphasized in his speech that the government is accelerating steps to implement the energy security initiative to enhance our self-capacity for energy production and improve infrastructure, noting that the upcoming period will witness more efforts to develop the legislative and infrastructure environment, leading to the independence of this sector.

Mustafa expressed his happiness at the completion of this agreement, which will provide additional basic requirements to support the resilience of citizens and a significant economic and social revival in the Hebron Governorate.

The Prime Minister stressed that the issue of electricity in the Gaza Strip receives all attention, calling for concerted efforts to rapidly rebuild this sector, and pointing to the government's efforts to provide as much as possible of the basic necessities to reconfigure the electricity network, solar energy systems, and storage units for essential facilities primarily, which are being prepared for shipment to the sector as soon as suitable conditions allow.

For his part, Ayman Ismail confirmed that the Energy Authority is following an ambitious plan to increase local production of renewable energy to reach 30% by around 2030, while continuing to work on developing traditional energy networks by building Palestinian stations, and today's agreement is a true translation of these efforts.

Ismail presented an overview of the most important ongoing strategic projects in the Hebron Governorate, which include the expansion of Beit Oula transformer station with the installation of a new 50-megawatt transformer at a cost of $3.3 million, and the construction of a double-circuit medium-pressure line with a length of 17 km and a capacity of 40 megawatts at a cost of $3.5 million, distribution of 17,000 smart meters to enhance revenue protection and reduce losses, establishing a new electricity reduction station with a capacity of 200 megawatts and an estimated cost of $20 million, a solar power station with a capacity of 30 megawatts funded by the Chinese government, and providing a mobile transformer station as an urgent solution to support the network until the "Qalqas" station is completed.

In turn, Imad Barik stated: "This agreement is not just a document, but a historic commitment to end the electricity crisis in Hebron, which has long troubled citizens and burdened the economy. It is a step that will enable the Hebron Governorate to obtain a sustainable and reliable supply, opening new horizons for development and investment in our most important economic cities, and is evidence that through cooperation and joint planning, we can overcome the most complex challenges and turn crises into opportunities."

On her part, Al-Sharabati said, "We seek, at a minimum, for ourselves and the government together to have a stake in stabilizing citizens as much as possible on their lands and in their homes. This project represents a step in this direction, as well as a major step towards cooperation, opening the door, God willing, for more significant joint work programs."

Additionally, the Prime Minister inaugurated the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Laboratory at the headquarters of the Energy Authority, visited the Palestinian Electricity Transmission Company headquarters, inaugurated the National Control Center, and conducted a tour to learn about the center's sections and the nature of its tasks.
