Economy: Registration of 189 Companies and Issuance of 819 Import Licenses Last June

SadaNews Economy: The Ministry of National Economy issued its monthly statistical report today, summarizing the most significant services and economic activities it provided during June, which included the registration of companies and merchants, issuance of import licenses and certificates of origin, consumer protection, among other services.

189 New Companies and 144 Merchants

The ministry registered 189 new companies in the West Bank governorates with a total capital of $13 million, a decrease of about 23% compared to the previous month. The activities of these companies were distributed across several sectors, most notably: wholesale trade (21.2%), retail trade (20.1%), and electricity and gas supplies (4.8%).

Additionally, 144 new merchants registered in the commercial registry, marking a decrease of 38.5% from the previous month, but an increase of 21% compared to June 2024. The percentage of female merchants among the new registrants was 8.3%, with Nablus governorate leading at (25.7%), followed by Hebron (20.1%) and Ramallah and Al-Bireh (16.7%).

133 Certificates of Origin and Increase in Industrial Product Exports

The ministry endorsed 133 certificates of origin valued at $4.85 million, a decrease of 43.9% compared to the previous month, and 21.8% compared to the same month of 2024. Tubas governorate had the highest number of certificates at 23.3%, followed by Hebron (21.1%) and Bethlehem (17.3%).

Jordan was the top destination for exports in terms of the number of certificates of origin at 45.9%, followed by the United States (23.3%). In terms of value, Jordan ranked first at 56%, followed by the UAE (10.2%) and Algeria (9.1%). Agricultural products accounted for 32.3% of the number of certificates, while industrial products topped by value at 29.9%.

819 Import Licenses Valued at $383 Million

The ministry issued 819 import licenses during June, with a total value of $383 million, representing an 8.2% decrease in the number of licenses compared to the previous month, yet a record increase in value of 121.3%. Year-on-year comparison showed an increase in the number of licenses by 241.3% and in value by 750.6%.

Trademarks and Patents

June saw the deposit of 183 new trademarks and the registration of 190 trademarks, in addition to the renewal of 93 trademarks after more than seven years of registration. There were also 5 new industrial designs registered and one patent.

New Commercial Agencies

Two new commercial agencies were registered; one in China related to vehicles, and another in the UAE concerning cosmetics and skincare products, along with the registration of a commercial agent in Jenin governorate.

350 Inspection Rounds and 129 Complaints

The Consumer Protection Directorate conducted 350 inspection rounds on 2824 shops, resulting in the detection of 37 violations and the referral of 11 violators to court. It also conducted 102 awareness activities, and the number of complaints submitted to the ministry reached 129, an increase of 69.7% compared to the previous month.

The ministry provided 3007 decentralized services through its departments in various governorates, covering areas such as company registration, licensing, import, and others.
