Palestinian Statistics: Sharp Rise in Consumer Prices During June 2025
SadaNews - A sharp rise in consumer prices in the Gaza Strip amid the resumption of Israeli occupation aggression and the limited number of commercial trucks allowed to enter through commercial crossings.
With the resumption of Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and the limited number of commercial trucks permitted to enter through commercial crossings, which has resulted in the loss of many essential goods in the markets of the sector due to the continued prohibition on their entry into the Gaza Strip during June 2025, the Consumer Price Index recorded a sharp increase in the Gaza Strip of 5.54% compared to May 2025. Meanwhile, the index increased in Jerusalem J1 by 0.35%, while it recorded a decrease of 0.27% in the West Bank, driving the overall Consumer Price Index in Palestine to increase by 3.45%.
Overall, price levels are experiencing sharp fluctuations between increases and decreases in the Gaza Strip, linked to developments in Israeli aggression and the flow of commercial crossings, and not due to changes resulting from market factors interacting. Thus, their impact on the general price index for the Palestinian territories is significant. This data must be taken into account when reading the cost of living index and focusing on changes in the cost of living at the regional level to understand the actual change. Given the uniqueness of this exceptional phase, it is inappropriate to use the average overall price index of the Palestinian territories to represent the average changes at the level of different regions due to the sharp variations in the data regionally and their substantial impact from price changes in the Gaza Strip.
Price levels are still higher than their counterparts in June of the previous year. When comparing prices during June 2025 to June 2024, data indicates an increase in the Consumer Price Index in Palestine by 51.41% (with 108.60% in the Gaza Strip, 1.83% in Jerusalem J1, and 0.70% in the West Bank).

It should be noted that the cost of living index for Palestine is not taken into account due to the significant gap between the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
While price levels in both the West Bank and Jerusalem J1 remain high, they are less severe than they were last year, recording an increase of 1.65% in Jerusalem J1 and 0.51% in the West Bank for the first half of 2025.
