Demolition of Two Homes in the Negev and Wadi Ara

SadaNews - Israeli occupation forces, accompanied by demolition vehicles and bulldozers, raided the towns of Lakiya in the Negev region and Ara in the Triangle area on Monday morning, amid heavy security deployment.

In this context, reports indicated that Israeli authorities demolished a house belonging to the Al-Asad family in the village of Lakiya.

The authorities also demolished a house under construction located between the villages of Ara and Kafr Qara in the Wadi Ara area, on the pretext of building without a permit. The demolition forces, accompanied by the police, entered the area from the direction of Kafr Qara, and began demolishing the house amid security deployment, preventing residents from reaching the site. The house belongs to a family from Jisr al-Zarqa, consists of three floors, and was built about ten years ago.

Both regions witnessed a significant presence of Israeli security forces to protect the demolition vehicles and crews during the demolition operations.

Ahmed Malhim, a member of the local planning committee in Wadi Ara and head of the popular committee for defending land and housing, stated that "what is happening is very serious, and there is a widespread wave of demolitions targeting citizens' homes in the Wadi Ara area, as about 200 buildings and homes are threatened with demolition in the region".

He added that "it is necessary for all seven local authorities in Wadi Ara to be united in confronting the demolition policy and to treat any house in any town as a matter that concerns all local authorities, in order to protect our homes from the demolitions and destruction that target citizens wishing to live in safety and security".

These incursions are part of a series of demolition operations carried out by Israeli authorities in Arab towns, amidst criticism from residents and local entities who consider it a policy of constriction aimed at the Arab presence.

Demolition Pursues Arab Towns

Arab towns within Israel have faced a continuous demolitions policy for years, under the pretext of building without permits, amidst an ongoing crisis in planning and a scarcity of land designated for urban expansion.

Residents, local authorities, and popular committees assert that the difficulty in obtaining building permits, due to planning restrictions and the freezing of construction expansion in many Arab towns, pushes many to build in order to meet housing needs, which makes them vulnerable to demolition orders and fines.

Human rights organizations and Arab leaders point out that the demolition policy is linked to the lack of adequate planning and the narrowing of urban development spaces, while Israeli authorities claim that demolition operations are part of "enforcing construction and planning laws".

Israeli authorities repeatedly conduct demolition campaigns in Arab towns in the Negev, Triangle, and Galilee, sparking widespread protests from residents and local leaders who demand the approval of structural plans and the provision of planning solutions instead of demolishing homes.
