Tehran: Washington Bears Responsibility for Any Escalation and Illegal Actions
SadaNews - The Iranian Foreign Ministry stated today, Saturday, that the United States will bear responsibility for any consequences of its illegal actions and any further escalation, following the targeting of Iranian coastal surveillance radar sites in Qeshm and Ghurk by U.S. forces in response to Iran launching drones towards the Strait of Hormuz.
The ministry said in a statement that the repeated violations of the ceasefire declared on April 8 show that Washington does not intend to de-escalate, asserting its right to defend itself.
It also described the U.S. attack on radar and coastal monitoring facilities in the Sirik area and Qeshm Island as a "blatant violation of the ceasefire."
The Iranian statements came after the U.S. military announced targeting radar sites inside Iran following the downing of four Iranian drones that Washington claimed were threatening maritime civilian navigation in the region.
Meanwhile, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard mentioned on Saturday evening targeting U.S. bases in the region with missiles, in response to an American attack on the Sirik and Qeshm Islands.
For its part, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that Iran launched seven ballistic missiles towards Kuwait and Bahrain, noting that air defenses intercepted six of them while the seventh missed its target.
It added, "There are currently no reports of casualties among U.S. forces, and Iranian claims of damaging the U.S. Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain are false."
