Gold Falls Amidst Fluctuations from Iran War and U.S. Interest Rate Anticipation
SadaNews - Gold has decreased amid conflicting messages from the United States and Iran regarding reaching a diplomatic solution to the war, maintaining fears about ongoing trade and geopolitical disturbances.
The precious metal was recorded at nearly $4,518 an ounce, after dropping by 1.2% on Monday.
With renewed clashes near the Strait of Hormuz, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that talks are progressing rapidly, and that Israel and Hezbollah agreed to halt mutual attacks. In contrast, Iran threatened to suspend diplomatic communications and fully close the vital waterway.
This ambiguity has caused fluctuations in the markets, with oil recording its biggest gains in nearly a month on Monday, while bond yields and the U.S. dollar rose.
Interest Rates and Gold
Data released on Monday indicated that industrial activity in the United States expanded in May at the fastest pace in four years. With the economy continuing to grow for the fifth consecutive month, the need for the Federal Reserve to ease monetary policy to stimulate consumption may decrease.
The sustained high interest rates for a longer period are a negative factor for gold, as it does not generate a yield.
Silver Prices
Silver prices were also recorded near $75.
