Knesset Committee Approves Bill to Dissolve the Knesset
SadaNews - This morning, Monday, the Knesset Committee approved the bill to dissolve the twenty-fifth Knesset, in a move that paves the way for it to be presented later today to the Knesset plenum for a first reading vote.
The bill was introduced by the coalition leader, Knesset member Ofir Katz, who stated that the likely timeframe for early elections ranges from September 8 to October 20 of the upcoming year, provided that the legislative procedures for dissolving the Knesset are completed.
The bill had passed its preliminary reading about a week and a half ago, receiving broad support within the plenum, with 110 Knesset members in favor and no recorded opposition.
These developments come amid ongoing political and legislative discussions concerning several controversial laws, notably the conscription law.
During a session held by the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee to discuss the bill, government secretary Yossi Fox stated that the government intends to proceed with passing the law within the committee and then presenting it to the Knesset plenum to complete the legislative procedures with a second and third reading.
He added that the government has requested the committee chairman and the government legal advisor to work on finalizing the draft law and completing the necessary procedures for its approval.
