Intense Displacement Movement in Beirut Suburb After Netanyahu's "Order"
SadaNews - The southern suburb of Beirut witnessed intense displacement movement on Monday, following a statement from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Occupation Army Minister Israel Katz, in which they ordered the military to launch attacks on the area.
In circulated clips, roads experienced heavy congestion due to the displacement caused by fears of Israeli strikes.
These scenes complicate the situation in Lebanon, which has been experiencing war since March 2, leading to the martyrdom and injury of thousands and the displacement of hundreds of thousands based on Israeli evacuation orders.
Netanyahu's announcement to target the suburb comes after reports indicated that Israel requested the United States to allow it to expand its military operations in Lebanon, including the possibility of conducting airstrikes in the Beirut area, amidst ongoing confrontations with Hezbollah.
According to the Israeli news site "Walla," Israel is awaiting a response from U.S. President Donald Trump's administration regarding the request submitted recently to Washington, with indications of "American openness towards approving it."
The Israeli position, according to the report, is based on "assessments that the leadership and military infrastructure of Hezbollah is not limited to southern Lebanon," and that limiting military operations to border areas "is no longer sufficient to achieve Israeli security objectives."
The Security Council is expected to hold an emergency session on Lebanon on Monday, following Israel's announcement of control over a strategic highland in the southern part of the country and the expansion of its operations against Hezbollah.
