The World's Largest Aircraft Carrier Leaves the Middle East
SadaNews: The world's largest aircraft carrier, "USS Gerald R. Ford," is returning to the United States in the coming days after a record deployment lasting more than 300 days, which included participating in the war against Iran and the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
Two U.S. officials speaking on condition of anonymity said Wednesday that the carrier will leave the Middle East in the coming days, heading to its home port in Virginia, and is expected to arrive by mid-May.
Two U.S. aircraft carriers will remain in the region: "USS George H.W. Bush" and "USS Abraham Lincoln."
Last week, the aircraft carrier "USS George H.W. Bush" arrived in the region, marking the deployment of three U.S. aircraft carriers in the Middle East, a level not seen since 2003.
The "USS Abraham Lincoln" has been in the region since January, amid rising tensions with Iran.
This month, "USS Gerald Ford" broke the U.S. record for the longest naval deployment since the Vietnam War, having been deployed for nearly 10 months after leaving Norfolk Naval Base in June of last year.
