The President Casts His Vote in Local Elections in Al-Bireh City

SadaNews - President Mahmoud Abbas cast his vote today, Saturday, in the local authority elections for 2026, at the polling center in Al-Mustaqbal al-Salih School in Al-Bireh City.

After casting his vote, the president said: "Firstly, we are very happy that we are able to exercise democracy despite all the challenges we face locally and internationally, and thus we were keen to ensure that the elections take place on time despite everything."

He added: "Therefore, we are pleased with the youth elections first, then now the local elections, and then on the 14th of next month, we will celebrate the Fatah Movement conference, followed by the Palestinian National Council elections in November, all of which will take place this year."

The president stated: "We tell the world that we are democrats, we believe in democracy and pluralism, and we deserve an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital."

The president continued: "In these circumstances, Gaza faces daily warfare and also attempts to separate it, which will not be permitted by our people, our families, or anyone in the world. Gaza is an integral part of the State of Palestine, and we have worked by all means to ensure that elections are held in Deir al-Balah to affirm the unity of the two parts of the country, and this will happen, with the hope that when matters calm down, elections will be held throughout the Gaza Strip."

Several senior officials at all levels were present to receive the president upon his arrival at the polling center.
