A Fragile Ceasefire in Lebanon: 3 Martyrs in an Israeli Airstrike and Hezbollah Launches Shells Towards a Border Town
SadaNews - Three people were martyred and two others were injured in an Israeli airstrike that targeted a vehicle on the Shoukin road in the Nabatieh district of southern Lebanon. Additionally, two individuals, including a child, were injured due to Israeli artillery shelling on the town of Yater in the Bent Jbeil district; this occurred amid ongoing Israeli violations of the fragile ceasefire.
The alarm sounded in the border town of "Shatula" in western Galilee, following the launch of shells from Lebanon. Israeli reports mentioned that 3-4 shells were fired, which the Israeli army claimed to have intercepted all of them. Meanwhile, Hezbollah announced it targeted them with a barrage of missiles and also declared executing other operations in southern Lebanon that targeted gatherings of Israeli soldiers and military vehicles.
This comes ahead of a second round of direct talks between Lebanon and Israel in Washington, where Lebanese official sources indicated that the second meeting was moved to the White House instead of the U.S. State Department. An American official stated that President Donald Trump would meet with the Israeli and Lebanese ambassadors.
The Israeli army announced it has conducted about 50 airstrikes in Lebanon since the onset of the fragile ceasefire, claiming to have killed over 25 Hezbollah members and located large quantities of combat supplies. They stated that "their forces continue to operate in southern Lebanon to establish a buffer zone to protect the northern residents, clear the area of 'saboteurs,' and destroy all Hezbollah infrastructure."
In contrast, Hezbollah's responses continued through drone attacks and shelling aimed at Israeli positions and vehicles in the south, as part of "the response to the enemy's violations," reflecting the ongoing open rules of engagement and reinforcing the fragility of the political path, amid estimates that any progress in Washington will remain hostage to developments concerning the Iranian file.
