Trump: We may end the ceasefire with Iran if a deal is not reached
SadaNews - President Donald Trump stated late Friday to Saturday that he might end the ceasefire with Iran unless a long-term agreement to end the war is reached by Wednesday.
Trump added to reporters aboard Air Force One while returning to Washington from Phoenix, Arizona, "I may not extend the ceasefire, but the blockade (on Iranian ports) will continue. So, you have a blockade, and unfortunately, we have to start dropping bombs again."
Trump revealed that there are "good news" regarding Iran, but he declined to elaborate, stating to reporters: "We received good news twenty minutes ago, and things seem to be going well in the Middle East with Iran."
In response to a question about what this good news is, he added: "You will hear about it. I think it is a necessary and logical step, and I believe it will happen. We will see what happens, but I think it will happen."
He confirmed that there will be no fees on ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz, noting that negotiations will continue with Iran over the weekend.
Regarding whether there are disagreements between him and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump said: "Netanyahu and I disagree on some things, but he is a very good partner, and we have done well."
Earlier on Friday evening, the American president stated that he does not believe there are many substantial disagreements with Iran at this stage, referring to the resumption of talks between Washington and Tehran at the beginning of the week.
Trump added while speaking to the press upon his arrival at Phoenix airport in Arizona that talks with Iran will continue over the weekend, revealing that they "include Lebanon." He also clarified that the maritime blockade imposed by Washington on Iran "will end with the signing of an agreement" with Tehran.
Later, the American president said in a speech during an event in Phoenix that the agreement being negotiated to end the war in Iran will not involve paying any money.
Trump also confirmed that enriched uranium will be transferred from Iran to the United States under any peace agreement reached, indicating that Washington will assist Tehran in extracting it from the nuclear facilities that were destroyed last year.
He continued: "Someone said, how will we get the nuclear dust? We will extract it by entering with Iran using many drilling rigs.. We will need the largest drilling rigs you can imagine.. but we will go in together, with Iran. And we will extract it and bring it back to the United States very soon."
This comes as the American news site "Axios" reported on Friday, based on a phone call with Trump, that the American president expects to reach an agreement with Iran in the coming days.
Axios quoted Trump saying: "I believe we will reach an agreement in the next few days," adding that it is "likely" that representatives from the United States and Iran will meet over the weekend.
