President Abbas Strongly Condemns Israeli Assaults Against Prisoners

SadaNews - Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas expressed his strong condemnation of the oppression, abuse, and brutal assaults faced by prisoners in Israeli occupation jails, which violate their human dignity. He referred specifically to the severe assaults and inhumane practices against Marwan Barghouti, a member of the Fatah Central Committee, which constitute a flagrant violation of all relevant international laws and treaties regarding prisoners' rights.

President Abbas stated, "These recurring assaults faced by our brave prisoners demonstrate a systematic plan by the occupation authorities to undermine our prisoners' and fighters' dignity. This is completely unacceptable and constitutes a clear violation of the Geneva Conventions regarding the status of prisoners and international humanitarian law."

The President called on international legal and human rights organizations to fully assume their responsibilities and take urgent action to pressure the occupation authorities to stop their ongoing violations and assaults against Palestinian prisoners, to cease all forms of torture and inhumane treatment, and to immediately apply the relevant international laws and treaties concerning prisoners' rights.

President Abbas held the occupation authorities fully responsible for the life of prisoner Marwan Barghouti and his fellow inmates, asserting that he will continue to work at all levels to end their suffering and secure their freedom.
