The Presidency Welcomes the German Chancellor's Stance Rejecting Annexation

SadaNews - The Palestinian presidency welcomed the statements of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, in which he expressed his concern regarding the accelerating developments in the Palestinian territories, and clearly reiterated the necessity of not proceeding with any steps that would impose the reality of annexation in the West Bank.

The presidency expressed President Mahmoud Abbas's gratitude and deep appreciation for the German Chancellor’s positions that align with international law.

They praised the German Chancellor’s stance, considering it a reflection of a genuine commitment to international law and international legitimacy, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the two-state solution as the only way to achieve just and lasting peace in the region.

The presidency called on the international community to translate the opposing positions against annexation and settlement, and other crimes into tangible, practical steps that push Israel to cease these grave violations of international law.

They also urged the international community to take on its legal and moral responsibilities to put an end to all the crimes and violations committed by Israel against the Palestinian people, their land, and their holy sites, ensuring the protection of Palestinian rights and the establishment of their independent state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The statement concluded by emphasizing the importance of continuing and intensifying international and regional efforts, and taking serious practical steps to revive the political process based on international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative, ensuring the end of occupation, and realizing the Palestinian state within the two-state solution according to international references, as the only way to achieve stability, security, and peace in the region.
