Spain's Prime Minister: It Is Difficult to Find an Alternative to China to End the Iran War
SadaNews - Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez stated that it is difficult to find other parties besides China capable of playing such a pivotal diplomatic role in ending the Iran War.
Sánchez - who is visiting Beijing - pointed out that international law is being grossly violated by one country, which is Israel, as reported by Reuters.
Beijing and Madrid have committed to enhancing cooperation and maintaining global peace and development during a meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.
Xi considered that the world today is chaotic with the collapse of the international system, affirming that strengthening relations benefits both China and Spain.
He called for enhancing communication and trust to support the rule of law, jointly defend genuine multilateralism, and protect global peace and development, emphasizing the importance of supporting relations to promote peace and prosperity.
He continued, "This is more necessary today than ever, so that together we can build a stronger relationship between China and the European Union, urging Beijing, the second-largest economy in the world, to take on a larger role in various global issues.
On Monday, Sánchez stated that these issues ranged from climate change to security, defense, and combating inequality, calling on Europe to double its efforts amid the United States' decision to withdraw from many of these fronts.
Sánchez's visit to China comes amid tension between Madrid and Washington during the recent U.S.-Israeli war on Iran, as Spain refused to allow American planes to use its military bases, while President Donald Trump threatened Spain with cutting trade relations in response.
Spain is considered one of the main European supporters of expanding trade and engagement with China at a time when many Western governments are seeking to maintain their relations with Beijing, despite ongoing security and trade tensions, amid increasing dissatisfaction with the policies of its main ally, President Donald Trump.
