Report: A new round of talks between Washington and Tehran may be held in the coming days
SadaNews - The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday, citing informed officials, that a second round of talks between the United States and Iran could take place within days.
The newspaper added: "Consultations are being held with the United States to ensure the extension of the ceasefire with Iran."
A report published by Axios revealed that talks held on Saturday between the United States and Iran in Pakistan failed due to disagreements over the amount of Iranian funds that the U.S. was supposed to release, as well as control over the Strait of Hormuz.
Axios's correspondent reported that a U.S. official stated Washington's demands to Tehran, which represented non-negotiable red lines for the U.S., were related to freezing uranium enrichment, removing it from the country, dismantling its facilities, reopening the Strait of Hormuz, canceling transit fees, as well as reaching a regional security agreement and stopping Iran's funding of affiliated organizations.
J.D. Vance, the former U.S. Vice President under Donald Trump, stated that the U.S. and Iran held "substantive talks" over 21 hours but could not narrow the gap.
He considered that: "This is bad news for Iran much more than it is bad for the United States. We have clearly stated what our red lines are... and they chose not to accept our terms."
Vance added that the U.S. was seeking a "clear long-term commitment" from Iran not to pursue nuclear weapons or the means to produce them swiftly, affirming, "We have not seen that yet, and we hope to see it."
On the other hand, several Iranian media outlets reported, following Vance's press conference, that the talks failed because the American side was not realistic, and its demands were "excessive."
