Putin to Bazijkian: We are Ready to Mediate in the Settlement of the Middle East War

SadaNews - The Russian news agency "Interfax" reported today, Sunday, that President Vladimir Putin had a phone call with his Iranian counterpart Masoud Bazijkian to discuss the Iranian-American talks that took place in the Pakistani capital Islamabad.

The agency quoted Putin as saying that Russia is ready to continue working to facilitate reaching a settlement and long-term peace in the Middle East.

The Iranian president, during his conversation with his Russian counterpart, evaluated the Iranian-American negotiations regarding the situation in the Middle East that were held in Islamabad on April 11.

The Kremlin's press office stated: "The Iranian president evaluated the Iranian-American negotiations that took place in Islamabad on April 11."

The Kremlin reported, "Vladimir Putin emphasized his readiness to continue facilitating the search for a political and diplomatic settlement to the conflict and to mediate efforts aimed at achieving a just and lasting peace in the Middle East."

U.S. officials led by Vice President J.D. Vance and Iranian officials headed by the Chairman of the Majlis Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf held peace talks in Pakistan that ended without any results, coinciding with a two-week ceasefire in the war launched by the United States and Israel against Iran in late February.

The American news site "Axios" reported from a source familiar with the negotiations that the disputes included Iran's request to control the Strait of Hormuz and its refusal to relinquish its stockpile of enriched uranium.

It was unclear whether the two sides would resume communications or what would happen to the ceasefire after the talks failed, noting that it began on the night of April 7-8.
