Royal Jordanian: Raising Ticket Prices to Combat Rising Fuel and Operating Costs
SadaNews - Royal Jordanian Airlines announced that it has raised ticket prices "similar to global airlines" due to the increase in fuel prices and changes to flight routes, amidst the operational challenges facing the aviation sector in the region as a result of tensions in the Middle East.
The company explained that global airlines have increased ticket prices by between 100% and 150% or imposed additional charges, "including Royal Jordanian," which took this step to combat rising operational costs.
It added that changing flight routes to avoid tense areas contributed to increased flight times and higher operating costs, particularly regarding fuel consumption and insurance costs, which were reflected in ticket prices.
Royal Jordanian indicated that these developments coincided with a decline in demand for travel, putting the company in a "difficult equation" between covering costs and maintaining occupancy levels.
Regarding the management of flight route changes during the war, Royal Jordanian explained that it has redirected several of its flights through longer alternative routes, leading to increased flight times and higher operating costs, especially concerning fuel consumption and insurance costs.
It clarified that its flights during the tensions took southern routes, avoiding flying west and north, using Egyptian airspace to reach its destinations in Europe and the United States.
It pointed out that each of these flights adds about half an hour, imposing significant financial burdens on the company.
