Pakistan Calls for Restraint Amid Ceasefire Violations in Iran War

SadaNews - Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif stated on Wednesday that violations of the ceasefire between the United States and Iran have been reported, urging all parties to respect the truce. Sharif wrote on the platform "X": "Ceasefire violations have been reported in several locations across the conflict zone, undermining the spirit of the peace process." He added, "I sincerely urge all parties to exercise restraint and respect the two-week ceasefire, as agreed, to allow diplomacy to take a leading role toward a peaceful resolution of the conflict." It is worth noting that Pakistan played a pivotal role in mediating the ceasefire between Tehran and Washington. Iran's state television reported, citing a statement from the Revolutionary Guards, the downing of an Israeli-made drone, the "Hermes", that was flying over the city of Lar in the south of the country on Wednesday, warning of a "violation of the ceasefire." The statement said, "Minutes ago, an advanced Hermes 900 drone was intercepted and destroyed in the skies over Lar in Fars province by the advanced air defense system of the Revolutionary Guards." The statement indicated that the entry of any kind of U.S. or Israeli aircraft into Iranian airspace, "even without conducting military operations, is considered a violation of the ceasefire that will be met with firmness." In contrast, Iran continued to launch various attacks targeting several countries in the region, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, and Bahrain. This comes as the United States and Iran agreed to a two-week ceasefire facilitated by Pakistan, a step that could put an end to a war that has lasted six weeks, resulted in thousands of deaths, and extended its repercussions throughout the Middle East, causing unprecedented disruption to global energy supplies. Trump announced the agreement late Tuesday night, just two hours before the deadline he set for Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz, or face the complete "annihilation of its civilization."
