Lapid: Ceasefire with Iran is a political disaster and Netanyahu has failed strategically
SadaNews: Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid criticized the ceasefire agreement with Iran on Wednesday, describing it as an "unprecedented political disaster," accusing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of failing to achieve the goals of the war.
Lapid said on his account on the "X" platform: "No political disaster like this has ever occurred in our entire history. Israel was not even close to the negotiation table when decisions regarding the core of our national security were made."
He added: "The army has executed everything that was requested of it, and the public has shown remarkable resilience, but Netanyahu has failed politically and strategically, and has not achieved any of the goals he set for himself."
A statement from the office of Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu said: "Israel supports President Trump's decision to suspend strikes on Iran for two weeks on the condition that Iran immediately opens the straits and halts all attacks on the United States, Israel, and countries in the region," noting that the truce does not include Lebanon.
According to what a senior Israeli official told the "Times of Israel" in statements published on Wednesday, Israel coordinated with the United States ahead of the announcement of a two-week ceasefire with Iran.
The official stated that Iran would reopen the Strait of Hormuz without meeting any of its demands in advance, including a permanent end to the war, compensation, and the lifting of sanctions, according to a written statement.
He added that the Trump administration informed Israel that it would continue to adhere to its negotiating demands, including the removal of all nuclear materials from Iran, ending uranium enrichment, and eliminating the threat of ballistic missiles. The official confirmed that these goals are shared between Israel and the United States.
