Pakistani Prime Minister: Washington and Tehran Agree on a Ceasefire Including Lebanon
SadaNews - Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Wednesday that the United States and Iran have agreed to a ceasefire "everywhere," including Lebanon, following his government's mediation to halt the war that began on February 28.
Sharif wrote on "X": "I am pleased to announce that Iran and the United States, along with their allied parties, have agreed to an immediate ceasefire everywhere including Lebanon and other places, effective immediately."
He added, "We invite the two delegations to Islamabad on Friday to continue negotiations towards a final agreement to resolve all disagreements."
He continued: "Both sides have shown great wisdom and understanding, and have remained constructively engaged in promoting peace and stability."
He concluded by saying: "We sincerely hope that the Islamabad talks will succeed in achieving lasting peace, and we look forward to sharing more good news in the coming days."
The Israeli site "Wynet" reported from security sources that the ceasefire with Iran will also include Lebanon.
However, Netanyahu stated in a statement from his office: "The ceasefire does not include Lebanon."
CNN also reported, citing American officials, that the Trump administration is preparing for direct talks with Iran likely to involve Vice President JD Vance.
According to the White House spokesperson as reported by "Axios," discussions are underway about holding direct meetings between the U.S. and Iran, but nothing is final until announced by the president or the White House.
Trump announced on Wednesday that he agreed to stop bombing Iran and launching attacks on it for two weeks.
Trump wrote in a post on his "Truth Social" account: "Based on the talks I had with Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Marshal Asim Munir from Pakistan, where they requested that I refrain from using destructive force tonight in Iran, and conditional on Iran's agreement to fully and immediately safely open the Strait of Hormuz, I agree to suspend bombing and attacking Iran for two weeks."
He emphasized that "this will be a ceasefire from both sides," adding: "We received a ten-point proposal from Iran and believe it is a viable basis for negotiation."
He noted that "almost all points of previous disagreement between America and Iran have been addressed."
He explained: "We have made significant progress towards a final agreement on long-term peace with Iran."
