Israel Announces Deal to Purchase Artillery Shells for $48 Million
SadaNews - The Israeli Ministry of Defense stated on Monday that it has signed an order worth $48 million to purchase "tens of thousands" of 155-millimeter artillery shells from Israeli defense industry company Elbit Systems.
The ministry added in a statement that this order is part of a broader strategy aimed at reducing Israel's dependence on foreign munitions and expanding local production.
The ministry did not mention a delivery date for these munitions.
Estimates indicate that the goal of the deal is to accelerate production within Israel, ensure ammunition availability in emergencies, and create an independent supply chain less susceptible to external pressures.
The Israeli parliament approved early Monday the budget for 2026 which includes a massive increase in defense spending, at a time when Israel is engaged in a war on multiple fronts.
The Israeli parliament stated in a release, "As part of the budget update, and considering the Operation Lion's Roar, more than 30 billion shekels (about 10 billion dollars) have been added to the defense ministry's budget, raising it to over 142 billion shekels."
