Trump: Negotiations with Iran are going well

SadaNews - U.S. President Donald Trump told the "Financial Times" that it is possible to reach a ceasefire agreement with Iran fairly quickly.

Trump added that "the indirect talks between the United States and Iran, mediated by Pakistan, are going well."

Trump indicated that the United States "may seize oil in Iran," adding that his country "could take control of Kharg Island," the center for oil exports from Iran.

When asked about the Iranian defense situation on Kharg Island, Trump said: "I don't think they have any defenses. We can take it very easily."

According to Trump, the United States "has about 3,000 remaining targets in Iran; we have struck 13,000 targets."

Trump noted that "the number of oil tankers flying the Pakistani flag allowed by Iran to pass through the Strait of Hormuz has doubled to 20 tankers."

Trump explained that Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqir Qalibaf "allowed additional oil tankers to pass through Hormuz."

Earlier on Sunday, Trump confirmed that the Iranians are very eager to reach an agreement.

In an interview with Israeli Channel 14, Trump said: "The Iranians are very eager to reach an agreement and are pleading for it."

Trump emphasized that the United States "is already working on controlling the Strait of Hormuz."

In response to a question about the level of coordination with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump clarified that relations are at their peak, adding: "Coordination is extremely close, and our relationship is good. It couldn't be better than that."

On Saturday, Trump stated that the United States is closer than ever to liberating the Middle East from the Iranian threat, noting that his country is now destroying the Iranian missile stockpile and its defensive industrial base.

Trump indicated that his country has "the strongest military in the world" and "we are closer than ever to liberating the Middle East from the Iranian threat and nuclear blackmail."

On Thursday, Trump announced a 10-day suspension of the destruction of Iranian power stations, until Monday, April 6, 2026.

Trump mentioned in a post on his "Truth Social" account: "At the request of the Iranian government, please consider this statement as an announcement of the suspension of the power plant destruction period for ten days, until Monday, April 6, 2026, at 8 PM Eastern Time."
