Iraqi: American Contradictions Regarding Reaching an Agreement Raise Doubts
SadaNews - While mediators continue to seek to facilitate talks between the Iranian and American sides aimed at reaching an agreement to end the war that has entered its second month, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi considered that the American contradictions regarding the achievement of an agreement raise doubts.
Araghchi stated in a phone call with his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan, on Saturday, that "the attacks and crimes of America and Israel are the cause of the current situation in the region and the lack of security therein".
He also believed that "the fundamental problem lies in the dual actions and unreasonable demands from Washington, and the contradictory statements that raise doubts," according to what was reported by the Tasnim news agency.
These statements coincided with Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif informing Iranian President Masoud Bezhashkian during a telephone call about the diplomatic efforts currently being made by him, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, in addition to the Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defense Forces, Marshal Asim Munir, to communicate with the United States and Gulf States to provide a conducive environment for peace talks.
"A Heavy Price"
Araghchi emphasized last night that "Israel's targeting of steel and energy industries contradicts American President Donald Trump's deadline for diplomacy," and stressed that Tel Aviv "will pay a heavy price for its crimes."
Meanwhile, Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar revealed, two days ago on Thursday, that his country is transmitting messages between the United States and Iran, and is seeking to put an end to the ongoing war in the Middle East.
He clarified that his country delivered an American 15-point plan to the Iranian side, noting that Tehran is studying it before submitting its response.
15 vs. 5 Conditions
While American special envoy Steve Wittekov announced yesterday, Friday, that he expects possible talks with Iran during this week, confirming that the Iranians received the American plan consisting of 15 points.
In contrast, informed sources revealed that the items of the plan or the American proposal included eliminating Iran's stockpiles of highly enriched uranium, halting enrichment operations, curbing the ballistic missile program, as well as stopping funding armed groups in the region.
On the other hand, the Iranian side discussed 5 conditions. A high-level political and security official stated that his country wants "to end acts of aggression and assassinations, create concrete conditions that ensure the war does not repeat, as well as guarantee the payment of war reparations and stipulate clear mechanisms for that, in addition to ending the war on all fronts to include all factions involved in the conflict, and recognizing Iran's sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz as a natural and legal right," according to his description.
