German Chancellor: What Trump is doing now is a massive escalation with uncertain results
SadaNews - The German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that the current conflict in the Middle East represents "a different kind of war", pointing to "limited European efforts to influence Israel".
Merz added, during a conference hosted by a German newspaper on Friday, "I hope every day that the war ends, but it seems that the Americans and Israelis are diving deeper into it," warning that what U.S. President Donald Trump is doing regarding this file constitutes "a massive escalation with uncertain results".
Merz confirmed that he does not see "a clear strategy from the Americans and Israelis in this war", dismissing their success in attempting to "change the regime" in Iran.
Request for Clarification
In the same context, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio faced pressure from his counterparts in the G7 during the second day of their meeting near Paris, to provide clarifications regarding the U.S. objectives in the war against Iran.
According to sources, foreign ministers from European countries seized the meeting to discuss the issue of Russia's support for Iran in the war.
German Foreign Minister Johan Wadefull stated that he hopes Rubio will clarify the "approach and American interests" in the war that began on February 28, calling on allies to reach a "common position" with Washington regarding a war that has extended throughout the Middle East and whose repercussions have crossed the region's borders.
