Trump: Suspension of Attacks on Iranian Power Plants for 10 Days at Tehran's Request
SadaNews - U.S. President Donald Trump announced late Thursday to Friday that he is suspending attacks on Iranian energy facilities for 10 days until April 6, based on what he said was a request from Tehran. He indicated that negotiations are ongoing and proceeding well despite misleading statements.
Trump had previously threatened to seize Iranian oil, stating that it was "an option on the table," while also mentioning that he does not know if a deal can be reached with Iran to end the ongoing war in the Middle East since February 28.
During a meeting with his administration, Trump responded to a question from reporters about his intentions regarding controlling Iranian oil by saying, "It is an option on the table," noting that the U.S. performance regarding Venezuela's reserves has been "very good."
He mentioned that "the Iranians are pleading for a deal, and I am not. They are good negotiators, and I don’t know if we will reach an agreement."
Trump also announced that military operations in Iran are progressing "significantly" ahead of their timeline, expecting that the war, now in its twenty-seventh day, will end "soon."
During a meeting at the White House, he stated, "We estimated that our mission would take between four to six weeks. After 26 days, we are far ahead, much further than the specified timeline."
He described the shared war with Israel that began on February 28 as a "short detour" that will end "soon."
Meanwhile, U.S. President's envoy to the Middle East, Steve Weitz, spoke of "strong indicators" to persuade Iran to reach a deal, adding, "We have a proposal for a 15-point framework that has been conveyed to the Iranians through the Pakistani intermediary."
He added, "The Iranians are stalling negotiations and looking for an exit, and reaching a deal will be in the interest of Iran and the world."
