The U.S. Department of State Launches an Easy Land Departure Service via Jordan

SadaNews - The U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem is organizing facilitated bus departures for American citizens wishing to leave the area from Israel to Queen Alia International Airport in Amman, Jordan, through the Jordan River/Sheikh Hussein crossing, starting from March 23, 2026. Buses will depart from gathering points in the Jerusalem and Tel Aviv areas. The U.S. Embassy stated in a statement today, "Travelers on this route are responsible for booking and paying for their subsequent flights from Amman, including flights from Queen Alia International Airport and any overnight accommodations in Amman if necessary, and they must be prepared to pay the applicable Israeli and Jordanian border fees. Therefore, travelers are advised to book or arrange their subsequent flights from Amman before boarding the bus." It added, "American citizens wishing to take this easy departure option must first fill out the specific electronic form available on the U.S. Embassy's website in Jerusalem." It continued, "The U.S. Embassy will then provide confirmed travelers with specific departure dates, times, and gathering point locations." It noted, "The Department of State places significant importance on the safety and security of American citizens in Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza. The Department continues to advise American citizens who do not plan to leave to be prepared to stay in place with basic supplies and to follow all instructions issued by local authorities and the Israeli Home Front Command. American citizens should also register in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP), monitor emails for the latest updates, and review security alerts issued by the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem for detailed information on land departure options, border crossing requirements, and ongoing emergency consular services in Jerusalem and at the embassy branch office in Tel Aviv."
