Sa'ar: The Iranian regime can only be overthrown by Iranians

SadaNews - As Israeli airstrikes on Tehran continue and the assassinations of senior leaders and politicians persist, Israeli Foreign Minister Gidon Sa'ar affirmed that the Iranian regime can only be overthrown by Iranians.

He also added in statements made on Tuesday that Tel Aviv has indeed triumphed over Iran, considering that Tehran has become much weaker.

He confirmed that Israel "will continue the war on Iran until the mission is accomplished," as he expressed.

Regarding Lebanon, he urged the Lebanese government once again to stop the attacks towards Israel. He said, "We expect the Lebanese government to take immediate action to stop Hezbollah's attacks on Israel from Lebanon."

Sa'ar had denied yesterday that Israel has any intention of holding direct negotiations with the Lebanese side to end the war that started on March 2, after a Lebanese official source stated last Saturday that "negotiations are on the table." He indicated that preparations are underway to form a negotiating delegation.

These statements came concurrently with the announcement of the Israeli army starting a new wide-ranging wave of attacks on the Iranian capital. It noted in a statement that the attack targets government infrastructure facilities in Tehran.

They also followed the confirmation by Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant of the assassination of the head of the Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani, and commander of the Basij forces, Gholam Reza Soleimani, in nighttime strikes on Tehran last evening.

Meanwhile, the United Nations warned that the continuation of the war in the Middle East until the end of June could expose an additional 45 million people to the risk of severe famine, raising the number of those suffering from hunger globally to a "catastrophic" level. Karl Scao, the Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Programme, said in a press conference from Geneva, "If the conflict in the Middle East continues until the end of June, rising prices could push an additional 45 million people into acute hunger."

The international community has repeatedly warned recently about the implications of closing the vital Strait of Hormuz on the global economy.

It is notable that since the outbreak of war on February 28 last, Israel has openly declared its intention to topple the Iranian regime. U.S. President Donald Trump had shown similar enthusiasm initially before later backtracking.

While U.S. intelligence reports confirmed a significant decline in the strength of the regime in Tehran, they ruled out its imminent downfall.
