Electoral Commission: The election campaign starts on April 10 and any activity before that is against the law
SadaNews - The Central Elections Commission announced that the election campaign period for the local elections will begin from April 10 to April 23, confirming that any form of electoral campaigning before this date is considered against the law.
The Commission stated in a statement today, Monday, that it has observed some early electoral campaigning activities, especially through social media or WhatsApp groups, considering this a violation of the law. It emphasized the need for lists and candidates to adhere to the rules and regulations of electoral campaigning as stipulated by law.
It clarified that respecting the rules of electoral campaigning, including the timing, is a professional, ethical, and legal obligation for every list and candidate, asserting that the specified campaign period of 14 days is sufficient for candidates to communicate with voters and present their electoral programs.
It added that there are various forms of electoral campaigning, and every list or candidate has the right to organize activities they see fit and lawful during the specified legal period.
The Commission had previously published a statement clarifying the spending ceiling on electoral campaigning, in addition to publishing the rules and regulations of electoral campaigning on its website, urging citizens and candidates to review them and follow its pages on social media, as the Commission is currently focused on clarifying the regulatory rules for electoral campaigning.
