Explosion Causes Damage to Jewish School in Amsterdam
SadaNews - A Jewish school in Amsterdam sustained damage following an explosion that occurred early today (Saturday), an incident described by the city's mayor as a "deliberate attack against Jews."
The mayor, Femke Halsema, stated in a press release that the explosion at the school, located in one of the upscale residential neighborhoods in southern Amsterdam, only caused limited damage, and that police and firefighters arrived at the scene quickly, according to a report by Reuters. There have been no reports of injuries.
Dutch authorities have already tightened security measures at synagogues and Jewish institutions in the capital following a firebombing attack on a synagogue in downtown Rotterdam yesterday (Friday). In neighboring Belgium, an explosion caused a fire at a Jewish synagogue in Liège last Monday. Halsema remarked: "This is a cowardly aggressive act against the Jewish population." She added: "Jews in Amsterdam are increasingly facing antisemitism. This is unacceptable."
Concerns have risen over the potential for attacks against Jews worldwide in the wake of U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran.
