Report: Questions Within Trump Administration Regarding Ending the 'Iran War'
SadaNews - Some officials within the U.S. administration have begun to express their "pessimism" due to the lack of a clear strategy to end the war.
According to the "New York Times," these officials are avoiding directly informing the President, as Donald Trump continues to assert that the military operation has been completely successful.
Officials told the newspaper that Iranian threats to target oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz have led to a near-total halt of commercial shipping in the Gulf and rising oil prices, prompting the U.S. administration to urgently search for ways to contain the economic fallout domestically.
The officials clarified that some of the administration's advisors had previously minimized the likelihood that Iran would resort to closing the shipping corridors through which about 20% of global oil supplies pass, but recent developments have shown that this assessment was inaccurate after Tehran threatened to target oil tankers crossing the strait.
According to the "New York Times," these developments reflect how poorly Trump and his advisors have estimated the nature of Iran's response to a conflict that Tehran considers an existential threat. Iran has responded much more aggressively than it did during the twelve-day war in June.
Amid rising oil prices, some Republicans have expressed concern about the impact of the crisis on the economic situation in the U.S. before the midterm elections.
