Munich Security Conference President: War on Iran Lacks a Clear Plan

SadaNews - The President of the Munich Security Conference, Wolfgang Ischinger, criticized the lack of a clear plan from the U.S. administration regarding the war on Iran.

Ischinger stated in remarks to the German magazine "Stern," reported by "AFP" on Saturday, that "I was negatively surprised that the U.S. government is still unable to present a somewhat reliable plan regarding the goal of intervention in Iran... The worst that can happen is getting involved in such operations without a clear plan shared with allies."

Ischinger explained that on the first day of the operation, U.S. President Donald Trump used the term "regime change."

He continued, "But Washington has since changed the rationale for intervention, like some change shirts," adding that there is no longer talk of "regime change," which is now mentioned only on the sidelines."

Ischinger believes that the war on Iran also threatens Western support for Ukraine, adding that Germany, as a leading European country, must tell the United States that "we need to focus on Ukraine, and we should not further deplete Ukraine’s ammunition through a prolonged military confrontation with Iran."

Ischinger emphasized that Ukraine must be the absolute priority for Europe, stating that "under no circumstances should we allow Ukraine to be forgotten in its struggle for freedom due to a shift in attention," adding that the war on Iran is already diverting attention and reducing the capacity to apply pressure on Russia, warning that it "also threatens to increase tensions in the transatlantic relationship."
