Poll: 57% of Americans Support the Establishment of a Palestinian State
SadaNews - A recent opinion poll conducted in the United States has shown that 57% of participants expressed their support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
According to the latest survey by the American research firm "Gallup", a significant shift in American attitudes towards Israel and Palestine has been observed compared to previous years.
Sixty-five percent of Democrats indicated their sympathy towards Palestine compared to 17% towards Israel, with no change recorded in the opinions of this group.
As for Republicans, 70% of them reported greater sympathy towards Israel compared to 13% towards Palestine, with sympathy for Israel within this group declining by 10 points compared to 2024, marking the lowest level since 2004.
Independents have been the most significant factor in this year's change, as 41% of them expressed their sympathy towards Palestine compared to 30% towards Israel, whereas their positions in previous years were 42% in favor of Israel and 34% for Palestine.
Increased Sympathy for Palestine Across All Age Groups
Within the age group of 18 to 34 years, 53% reported greater sympathy for Palestine, while sympathy for Israel dropped to 23%, which is the lowest recorded level, noting that the majority in this group are stating this position for the first time.
In the age group of 35-54 years, 46% expressed their sympathy for Palestine compared to 28% for Israel, after positions in 2025 tended to favor Israel at 45% compared to 33% for Palestine.
Those aged 55 and above showed that 49% expressed greater sympathy for Israel compared to 31% for Palestine, marking the first time since 2005 that the percentage of sympathizers for Israel in this group has dropped below half.
Positive Perception of Palestine is Rising
When looking at Americans' assessment of Israel and the Palestinian territories, the positive perception of Israel has declined over the past year, although 46% still view it positively compared to 37% for Palestine.
Among independents, the positive perception for both Palestine and Israel stands at 41%, with the positive perception of Israel dropping by 6 points in one year, while that of Palestine rose by 10 points.
Among Democrats, a clear preference for Palestine has emerged since 2025, as 48% viewed Palestine positively compared to 34% for Israel.
As for Republicans, 69% of them expressed their support for Israel, with a decrease of 15 points compared to 2025.
Majority Support for an Independent Palestinian State
Fifty-seven percent of participants supported the establishment of an independent Palestinian state alongside Israel, while 28% opposed the idea, and 15% did not express any opinion.
According to party affiliation, 77% of Democrats, 57% of independents, and 33% of Republicans supported the idea.
