Israel Prepares for Collapse of Nuclear Negotiations; Weitzkov and Kushner Shocked by Iran's Proposal
Translation and follow-up by SadaNews - Israeli political and security sources estimated this Thursday evening that the nuclear negotiations between the United States and Iran taking place in Geneva are on the verge of collapse.
All the sources that spoke to the Hebrew television channels this evening, as translated by SadaNews, agreed that the military option is closer than continuing negotiations with Iran in light of the latter's refusal to comply with U.S. conditions.
In Israel, they estimate Hezbollah and the Houthis will intervene in response to any attack against Iran, amidst high defensive preparations and a state of maximum alert for any developments.
According to Channel 12, Israel is significantly preparing for a potential response from Lebanon and Yemen.
Meanwhile, Channel Reshet Kan indicated that the collapse of the talks would bring the timing of a U.S. attack on Iran closer, as the deadline set by President Trump for Tehran is approaching this coming Sunday, although the president later set another final deadline for the following week.
Iran has set limits on U.S. demands and rejects some of them. According to informed sources, one of the main points of contention is the issue of removing enriched uranium from Iranian territory. Additionally, Iran has announced its refusal to commit to stopping uranium enrichment entirely or dismantling existing nuclear facilities such as Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan.
Iranian television mentioned that Tehran's proposal does not include transferring the stockpile of highly enriched uranium outside the country, and the proposal emphasizes the peaceful use of nuclear energy and maintaining nuclear fuel production.
During the negotiations, Iran demanded the lifting of sanctions and UN Security Council resolutions.
Tasnim News Agency mentioned that the meeting between Araqchi and Weitzkov was limited to exchanging greetings and was part of diplomatic niceties.
Meanwhile, Axios reported that Weitzkov and Kushner were disappointed with what the Iranians presented this morning, noting that the gaps were significant and difficult to resolve.
He added: The mediators and Iran proposed extending the negotiations for an extra day, but Washington has not decided yet, and Trump is waiting for a briefing from his envoys to make a decision.
